What is a Campus Missionary?
A student who follows Jesus at school.
Why should I be a Campus Missionary?
The most effective way to communicate the love of Jesus Christ is the most basic: person-to-person. If God calls missionaries to all seven continents, why wouldn’t He call students to the greatest mission field in America - the school campus? He is! And He's calling YOU!
Why Campus Missions in our church?
Students reaching students is what youth ministry is all about. Empowering students to become Campus Missionaries helps them accept personal responsibility to reach the lost of their generation. By making Campus Missions a priority, students can live out their faith today and develop an ownership of their beliefs that will last a lifetime.
What does a Campus MIssionary commit to?
-
PRAY daily for friends, teachers, school administrators, and others who need Jesus’ hope.
-
LIVE a real, consistent Christian faith by reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word and spending time in personal worship.
-
TELL his/her friends about Jesus.
-
SERVE in or begin an active campus club.
-
GIVE time and finances to promote Jesus’ hope globally.
In addition, CM's commit to consistment meetings with their coaches and completing monthly reports.
How is Campus Missions organized in ND?
Campus Missions is PROMOTED nationally, but ORGANIZED locally. CM's is a tool that youth leaders can use to disciple their students and reach the lost in their community. Though promoted on a National and District level, CM's is ultimately run on the local level.
Beyond the basic commitments, Youth Leaders decide how CM's is organized in their youth ministry and what role it plays in fullfilling their vision.
The National and District offices provide resources to assist Youth Leaders in implemeting the CM strategy; however, outside of monthly reports submitted at the National site, the National and District offices have no role in tracking or organizing local CM groups.
Remember, CM's is a TOOL and STRATEGY for local youth ministries!
Why do Campus Missionaries need coaches?
Coaches are key to the CM strategy. They provide wisdom, accountability, encouragement and challenges that will help students grow.
Depending on the structure of youth ministry in your church, coaches can be youth pastors, volunteer youth leaders or even parents.
What is the role of the CM Coach?
An effective campus missionary needs regular prayer, encouragement, motivation, management, and training by a Campus Missionary Coach.
The Campus Missionary Coach makes five vital commitments to each Campus Missionary:
1) PRAY: The CM coach prays regularly for his/her Campus Missionaries.
2) ENCOURAGE: The CM coach faithfully supports and encourages his/her Campus Missionary in word and deed.
3) MOTIVATE: The CM coach regularly communicates messages and provides incentives that help his/her Campus Missionary fulfill their commitment.
4) MANAGE: The CM coach provides the accountability each Campus Missionary needs through monthly CM reports and meetings. The CM Coach assumes responsibility to keep accurate records of his/her CM's monthly reports.
5) TRAIN: The CM coach provides individual and group training events/activities to empower and grow the Campus Missionary.
Where can coaches and students find resources for CM's?
The national CM site is PACKED with free resources for Campus Missionaries and their coaches. In addition, students and leaders will benefit from purchasing a CM Digisource that is filled with tools and tips.
Also, the fall Momentum Youth Leader training days in North Dakota will help equip youth leaders and coaches with implementing the CM strategy.
How does a CM get commissioned at Youth Convention?
Every fall, North Dakota CM's participate in a significant commissing service on the Saturday morning of Youth Convention. To participate in this service, students must have made the CM commitment for the respective school year, as well as be actively living the CM commitments and completing monthly reports.
The District office trusts the decision of the local youth leaders in regards to who will participate. Youth leaders MUST notify the DYD by October 1 with the names of students who will be participating in the commissioning service.

How do I become a Campus Missionary?
1. Review the Commitment and Make Your Decision
Campus Missions will provide you with amazing opportunities for leadership, growth, and adventure. CM's will inject you with passion and purpose!
Please don't take this decision lightly. CM's is only for students who are: committed to growth, willing to change, ready to sacrifice, and desire to reach to this generation for Christ.
If you are ready to PRAY, LIVE, TELL, SERVE and GIVE so that your friends can know Jesus, then Campus Missions is for you!
Download and complete a CM Profile card and return it to your youth leader.
2. Find a Coach
Every CM needs a coach. The wisdom of a coach will help you accomplish your goals by providing insight, encouragement and accountability. Depending on the structure of your youth ministry, your coach may be a youth pastor, volunteer youth leader or even a parent.
3. Set up an Online Profile and Complete a Monthly Report at:
This profile is necessary for you to complete monthly reports. Your report will automatically be sent to your coach. Be SURE to write down your username/password - you will need them every month to complete your report!
To sign up, you will need your church information, including phone number, as well as your coach's name and email address.
BE SURE to check "YES" to allow NYM to share your info with districts - otherwise you won't be signed up as a North Dakota CM!
4. Join 4:twelve [the commissioned] Facebook Group
This will be a great place to connect with other North Dakota CM's, share your testimonies and ask questions.
Note that this group is by invitation only and you must be approved. AFTER you have signed up at the address above, submit a Facebook request to join the group - and get talking!
5. Start a Five Friend Focus
Pick five friends who don't know Jesus and focus on reaching out to them by:
- Pray: Don't talk to your friends about God until you've talked to God about your friends!
- Invite: To an appropriate event.
- Tell: Your story of knowing Christ.
